The Inuit (previously known as Eskimos) are able to carve from Ivory Walrus Tusks because it is a tradition that goes back centuries. This Walrus is a wonderful example of excellent hand carving and sanding to a smooth finish. He has fantastic long Tusks and detailed webbed flippers. Made by Inuit carver Melvin Kayoutkluk from Diomede, Alaska. Diomede Village has few inhabitants and is on the remote western edge of Alaska on the far North Pacific Ocean. Measures 2 1/4" long by 1 1/4" tall.
